Warm Greetings!Friend Ships, Loading at Port Mercy

Warm greetings Friends!  Things are exciting as usual here at Friend Ships.  We have much to report.

PORT MERCY: Our major activity here at Port Mercy is preparing for our upcoming “Hope” mission to Honduras.  It is an amazing story how God works here at Friend Ships.  Several months ago, we decided that the mission to Honduras would be a good thing and that we wanted to do it.  There were many things we needed for such a mission that we did not have and we had no finances to dedicate toward obtaining them. But, we set the dates, invited doctors and speakers and set out to prepare.  We prayed, we met, we phoned, we talked, we thought, we worried, some of us fasted and we waited.  Now as we approach the sail date, we see one miracle provision after another with the Lord providing the equivalent of $900,000 worth of medicine and also medical equipment, tools, tents, personnel, a refrigerated container, mobile kitchen equipment, port-a-potty’s, hand wash stations, food, signs, photocopying anything and everything that we need.  It is awesome to see Him work and be a part of what He is doing on the earth.

The “Hope” sailed May 22th for Honduras and over the following six weeks will visit four different locations.  During the day, we will provide medical services to those in need, along with basic health care training and a teacher’s seminar. Local churches are being asked to send workers to help us reach out to their communities.  In three of the four locations, we will also offer a Church Leadership Summit on three consecutive evenings.  Local church leadership will be invited to attend, the final night being a banquet with wives invited and other community leaders.  We have five wonderful men of God flying in from Kansas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Wisconsin and Mexico who will lead the meetings.  Each evening we will have dinner, worship music, two sessions of speakers and a time of discussion so leaders can strategize on how to effectively inspire our communities toward Godly principals. Friend Ship “Hope” and her helicopter “Angel of Hope” are being prepared now to make this important journey.  We will set up tents, bring in generators, and operate with self-sufficiency, as we would need to do in case of a disaster and in this way better train ourselves for disaster response.

We are also preparing equipment and supplies to deliver to our ongoing program at The Village in Honduras.  A large crane is being repaired and made ready.  We are also assembling sports equipment, eyeglasses, “glow in the dark” shoelaces (and other fun stuff) and Spanish Bibles for outreach.  We are shipping materials for the Friend Ships Art School that we intend to open later this year, that will teach single mothers how to produce locally made quality souvenir gift items to sell to tourists.

StoreHouse One here at Port Mercy continues to collect an average of 3500 pounds of food a week.  Some of this feeds our volunteer crew and the remainder is delivered out to facilities that help men, women and children who are in shelters.  In April we received 8500 “sacks” of individual servings of milk, half of which was distributed locally and half frozen to be used on the Honduran mission. We have just been blessed by the gift of a 27’ x 11’ refrigeration unit so we expect StoreHouse One at Port Mercy to grow!

Spirit of GraceISRAEL:  In Israel, all supplies delivered by “Spirit of Grace” in January have now been distributed.  The “Joseph Project” has received hundreds of tons of clothing, blankets, toys, paint, school supplies, paper products, hygiene supplies, reading glasses, food, medical supplies and furniture.  This has been distributed to their 25 outreaches in Tiberius, Haifa, Tel Aviv, Nazareth, Jerusalem, Jaffa and several other locations throughout the country.  These organizations assist Russian, Moroccan, English, Spanish and Ethiopian immigrants, unwed mothers, Israeli Arabs, foreign workers, the elderly, the homeless and poor. Here is a letter that Joseph Project received from one of the many outreaches following deliveries of goods brought by “Spirit of Grace”.

Dear Friends, we are so blessed and full of activity with the items we have received! Our clients are also so very thankful. We have been very busy bagging beans from the huge one-ton super bag and 60-pound bags of wheat and separating the bales of clothing. Little children are delighted with the stuffed animals and we are filled with joy that the Beit Shemesh center is practically being used to its capacity. We would also like to thank you on behalf of our Streams elderly home, which received its own one-ton super bag of beans. Sidney set up a dispenser so that it will stay fresh and secure from bugs.

The police came around today to see what we were up to. They enjoyed the novel bean dispenser and also were pleased to see that the residents of Beit Shemesh are being blessed. We have given one ton of beans to a center in Tiberius and 500 baby blankets to a pro-life organization in the Haifa area that is part of our Joseph Project network. It is so wonderful to be able to give from the abundance of what we have received. The Russian speakers and Israeli Sabras [Israeli born citizens] in Beit Shemesh are delighted with the wheat. The Moroccan community uses wheat in many recipes for Shabbat meals, etc. The Russian speakers eat it in the morning as a hot cereal.

Another wonderful outreach that received supplies is Calvary Chapel based in Jerusalem, where the staff make and give furniture to new immigrant families, also teaching the men to build furniture.  In addition, they offer church services and give food, clothing, hygiene supplies, musical instruments and whatever else they have to share.  Food and supplies from the ship helped greatly to supplement their other resources.  Such wonderful Christian works going on around the world!  What a blessing to be part of it!

Israel FlagIn addition to the Joseph Project receiving goods, the Mayors of the cities of Tiberius, Bet-Shean and Hazor in the north of Israel each received huge amounts of clothing, toys, school supplies, hygiene supplies, blankets and paper products that have been given to facilities that assist new immigrants including homes that care for children whose families are unable to do so and other families in need.  The Association for the Well-Being of Israel Soldiers received dinner dishes, construction glass including bulletproof glass and tons of vinyl tarp material for shelters and many other uses.  We are making plans now for a return trip to Israel and will keep you informed as things progress.

LOS ANGELES:  Los Angeles has been very busy collecting and distributing food as well as offering support to the new ship, “Fearless”, in Stockton, California and loading and trucking goods here to Lake Charles.  Food operations in Los Angeles and San Diego continue to provide 20,000-25,000 pounds of food each week to one of our favorite outreaches that gives aid to very needy families in Tijuana, Mexico.  Each week, many people come to know the Lord through feeling His love by the meeting of their needs.

FEARLESS in Stockton: Our “Fearless” crew has just about completed preparing the ship to sail.  We are believing God for the $37,000.00 we need for fuel and canal fees.  While a small team finishes up the work on “Fearless”, most of the Stockton crew reported back to Port Mercy temporarily to make the “Hope” mission and then return to bring “Fearless” to Lake Charles.

Roatan Honduras.ROATÁN:   Things are in full swing at The Village in Roatán, Honduras!  The team is preparing for the “Hope” mission and has fabricated three tents for a mobile medical unit of the Honduran Fire Department.  At the same time, we are hosting groups of young men and women being trained by the Honduras Fire Department as fire fighters.  In addition to fire fighting training, the study of anatomy, how to deliver babies and first aid training, the students attend Bible Study with Friend Ships and are taught the dangers of taking drugs and being involved with gangs by various government ministries.  Our function in this joint venture is to host students at our facility, provide spiritual input, prepare and serve food and otherwise care for them.  It has been a privilege to have some of these new young friends decide to follow Jesus or renew their relationship with Him during their weeks of training with us at The Village.

God is reaching out to hurting people and we are grateful to be a part of it.  800 million people in the world go hungry every single day.  Every one of us can be a part of touching lives.  As Christians, it is our responsibility to do so. To help the poor is to honor God!  Thank you for helping us to help others here at “Friend Ships”.
